Foundry core made of ceramic SiC cooling compound
SOLIDIFICATION CONTROL
SiC Cooling Compound for Solidification
The need to accelerate solidification in a casting, partly to achieve a denser microstructure and partly to achieve higher hardness, is well known. Compared to the cast iron chills commonly used in the past, ceramic SiC Cooling Plates and Graphite Moulds have proven to be superior and also more economical. With complex castings, the use of such ceramic SiC Cooling Plates encounters difficulties due to their inherently fixed rectangular dimensions.
Technical Specifications of our SiC Cooling Compound
In response to practical requirements, the mouldable, ceramic SiC Cooling Compounds were developed, which, compared to the ceramic SiC Cooling Plates, offer the advantage of being applicable at any point regardless of the profile of the casting.
The cooling effect depends on the degree of compaction and the thickness of the applied layer. However, it will in any case be lower than that of fired ceramic SiC Cooling Plates. More important than this fact, however, is that the ceramic SiC Cooling Compound KERAMFORM F3 brings about a pronounced, localised densification of the casting.
The ceramic SiC Cooling Compound KERAMFORM F3 disintegrates after casting without impairing the quality of the moulding sand, and is hardened with either cold resin or CO2.
Two example drawings of the SiC Cooling Compound are intended to illustrate the use of the ceramic SiC Cooling Compound KERAMFORM F3 in thick-walled castings. The key consideration was avoiding the porosity that frequently occurred in the past in such castings. KERAMFORM F3 is either incorporated into a conventional core or placed in the mould in the form of solid cores.
