Casting Filter Programme
Customer requirements for castings are becoming ever more demanding. They must be lighter (castings are becoming increasingly thin-walled), while at the same time load-bearing capacity (e.g. improved strength properties) is expected to increase. In addition, there are faster processing times combined with higher cutting speeds. In short, as casting quality rises and production becomes more economical, the defect rate must be minimised.
It is well known that, despite good melt treatment, melt flow control, gating and pouring systems and cleanliness, casting defects are unavoidable, and even the smallest inclusions can lead to dangerous points of weakness in highly stressed castings.
The aim of using filters is therefore to reduce inclusions of all kinds, regardless of origin, to a minimum, thereby making the casting process safer, minimising the defect tolerance and increasing casting quality.
